Pebbles plea for museum

CAMPAIGNERS have accused the National Museum of Scotland of neglecting the collection of the nation’s most revered mineralogist.

The attack came after critics said the museum was keeping the “Scotch Pebbles” rock collection of Professor Matthew Forster Heddle in storage.

Richard Gillanders, of the Edinburgh-based Mineral and Lapidary Club, said: “A lot of people from overseas want to see the best of Scotland’s
collection.”
