PC near to tears telling of 7/7 tube train horror

A POLICEMAN fought back tears as he relived the terror of struggling to save a bleeding man's life after the 7/7 attacks.

Pc David Hill was a diplomatic protection officer in July 2005 but rushed to Edgware Road Tube station after bomber Mohammed Sidique Khan, 30, detonated a rucksack full of homemade explosives.

Struggling to control his emotions, Mr Hill told the inquest how he clambered through the wrecked carriage on the westbound Circle Line to hunt for survivors.

The officer discovered management consultant David Gardner, 55, whose leg had been torn off and who was being supported by passenger Jason Rennie.

The Metropolitan Police officer helped reapply a pressure bandage as the victim lost massive amounts of blood and tried to keep him conscious by talking to him until help arrived.

"I just wanted to concentrate on Mr Gardner because he was still alive," he said. "I spoke to him and reassured him

Mr Hill nearly broke down when asked about seeing the dead body of 24-year-old Jennifer Nicholson on the track. He said he wanted to cover the Reading woman's body to preserve her dignity but knew she was dead and had to rush to search for survivors.

The inquests were adjourned until Monday.
