Patients back GP check-ups

PATIENTS will have more faith in GPs once new regulations are introduced to check on doctors, a survey has found.

More than two-thirds of Lothians people asked by the General Medical Council welcomed the "revalidation" system that will require GPs to demonstrate regularly that they are fit to practise.

Dr Jean Turner, the director of the Scotland Patients Association, said: "We welcome doctors' skills being regularly checked through revalidation."
