Passengers up at Edinburgh Airport

THE number of passengers at Edinburgh Airport rose by almost 14 per cent last month compared with the same period last year.

More than 820,000 travellers passed through the airport in May, 13.7 per cent more than in May 2010 when the ash cloud and industrial action hit passenger numbers.

Operator BAA said its airports had fared well due to a late Easter and the impact of the royal wedding.

BAA's six airports handled almost 41.32 million passengers in the first five months of this year. BAA chief executive Colin Matthews said: "Demand is particularly strong on the long-haul routes."
