Parking bay plan for area at new school

PLANS have been approved by West Lothian Council which could result in the introduction of new parking bays on parts of a road in Pumpherston.

A new school is currently being built in the area and traffic calming measures are being put in place.

Plans to reduce the speed limit from 30mph to 20mph on Drumshoreland Road will be introduced later this year.

During consultation with the local community, parking provision was a key issue, with many vehicles reportedly parking indiscriminately. The council executive has now approved plans to initiate the statutory procedures to introduce permitted footway parking in Drumshoreland Road.

West Lothian’s executive councillor for the environment, Robert De Bold, said: “The introduction of permitted footway parking bays will ensure motorists know exactly where they can and cannot park, leaving clear space for pedestrians to walk. This should improve child and adult pedestrian safety along both footways in the vicinity of the new school.”

Seven parking areas are proposed, five on the north footway and two on the south footway.
