Parents' pride at posthumous MC

The family of a Scottish soldier killed in Afghanistan while rescuing an injured colleague spoke of their pride yesterday after receiving a posthumous Military Cross from the Queen at Buckingham Palace.

Lance-Corporal Stephen Monkhouse, 28, of 1st Battalion the Scots Guards, was killed by small arms fire after insurgents shot a fellow serviceman in July last year.

Relatives, including his son Brandon, three, attended the ceremony. The soldier's father William, from Greenock, said: "We had the ceremony filmed so we can show Brandon when he's older."
