Parents give pupils tips on job prospects

PARENTS are set to go back to high school to offer career advice to pupils.

Firrhill High will host its first parent/pupil job fair for fifth and sixth year pupils tomorrow, from 9am to noon. A successful pilot event for second and third year pupils took place earlier in the year.

The job fair follows the recent record exam results achieved by pupils at Firrhill. It is hoped the fair will give pupils a better chance of knowing what they want to do when they leave school.

City education leader Paul Godzik said: “This is a great initiative to give pupils the opportunity to learn more about the wide variety of occupations out there today. What better resource to use than parents who will provide a wide variety of examples of this?”

Parents asked to take part work in a variety of professions, including graphic design, animation, biochemistry, medicine, theatre design, mechanics and marketing.

Parents are being encouraged to talk about how they got into their job, what made them want to do it, the good and bad parts of it, and what opportunities there are within their role.
