Paolozzi work to fetch £250k

A HUGE sculpture of the late city artist Sir Eduardo Paolozzi as the Greek god of fire is to be sold at auction in London next month and expected to fetch up to a £250,000.

The 8ft tall bronze, a self-portrait, is titled The Artist as Hephaestus, and was conceived in 1987, a year after Paolozzi was promoted to the office of Her Majesty’s Sculptor in Ordinary for Scotland in 1986, a title which he held until his death.

The Leith-born eldest son of Italian immigrants trained at Edinburgh College of Art and then the Slade in London.
