Pair in custody over weapon being fired

TWO men were detained by Grampian Police yesterday as the force continued a major investigation into allegations of a weapon being fired in a suburb on the outskirts of Aberdeen.

A large area around Pitmedden Road, in Dyce, remained completely sealed off after police officers first arrived at the scene at 3pm on Thursday following reports of a firearms incident in the area, close to a traveller’s site.

A spokesman for Grampian Police said a weapon had been discharged at a disused building in the area.

The busy route, close to Aberdeen airport, was cordoned off as police search teams and sniffer dogs began a detailed examination of the surrounding area. Floodlights were deployed at the scene during the night.

Detective Inspector David Hadden said: “Two men have been taken into custody and are assisting with the inquiry.”
