Outlander fans raise £16k for charity on Sam Heughan's birthday

FANS of the television show Outlander have raised over £16,000 for two charities to celebrate Sam Heughan's birthday.

During the third annual charity campaign, Dram 4 Sam, Heughan’s Heughligans raised £16,473.62 for two charities that Sam supports - Bloodwise and Youth Theatre Arts Scotland (YTAS).

Fans of the actor were asked to contribute the price of a dram to one or both charities.

Sam Heughan is a vocal supporter of Bloodwise - a blood cancer charity - and is a the patron of YTAS.

Over the course of 17 days, fans raised £9,913.82 for Bloodwise and £6,560.94 for YTAS.

In just under three years, £56,498.76 has been raised for the two charities by fans.
