Orkney residents to have their say on Kirkwall town centre regeneration

ORCADIANS are being invited to submit comments on plans to regenerate Kirkwall town centre.

An online survey is being carried out until 20 August on Orkney Islands Council’s website.

The local authority will be submitting grant applications later this year to Historic Scotland and the Heritage Lottry Fund for building restoration and regeneration works.

Everyln Mathershaw, the council’s head of strategic development and regeneration, said: “The grant funds would go towards not just making Kirkwall town centre look good, but also to ensuring the long-term economic viability of the town.

“At this stage it is impossible to know if our grant applications for Kirkwall will be successful, but demonstrating community support strengthens our submission as community engagement and strong public support is deemed vital by the funders.”
