Orkney beachcombers warned over yacht recovery at Scapa Flow

BEACHCOMBERS on Orkney have been warned against recovering wreckage from a stricken yacht on the beach at Scapa Flow.

The yacht was washed ashore at Scapa Beach on Orkney between 29 and 30 December and has started to break up because of the prevailing weather conditions.

A spokesman for Northern Constabulary said: “As a result of this, various items of property and equipment have been washing ashore. Police request anyone who finds any property that may be related to this incident to hand it in to Kirkwall Police station. Any person failing to do so may be committing an offence under the Merchant Shipping act.”
