Taking a lead

Have your say

If – ACCORDING to weekend reports – Iain Duncan Smith believes that wealthy pensioners should give back their state benefits, perhaps he and his fellow wealthy members of parliament should lead by example and return the state benefits they receive for attending the talking shop in Westminster.

The Work and Pensions Secretary seems to ignore that many of the so called pensioners are the backbone of the voluntary sector, providing support to local and national bodies concerned about the needs of the elderly, children and the disabled, generally without any financial recompense and contribute from their own savings to prop up these important caring and community organisations.
