Ashley Davies’s excellent article on the value of apology (Perspective, 4 June) makes a number of important points. One is the potential barrier to saying sorry because of a fear of that being interpreted as an admission of culpability, leading to costly legal action.
The Apologies (Scotland) Bill currently under consultation in the Scottish Parliament is designed to address this issue, as part of enabling greater use of apology as we seek to build a less adversarial culture in Scotland.
The bill deserves widespread support.
