Have your say

Martin Gilbert announces on the front page of The Scotsman (30 July) that while his company, Aberdeen Asset Management, is the Scottish Open Golf Championship title sponsor he will not support the tournament if it is to be played at a men-only club.

I take it then that the organisers of the 2014 Scottish Open Championship, due to be played at Royal Aberdeen, will now be seeking a new venue as the membership of the famous North-east club is men only.

Members of the nearby Aberdeen Ladies Golf club are permitted to use the golf course but they are not members of the exulted Royal Aberdeen Club. I fear that both Martin Gilbert and Alex Salmond are hiding behind this little nuance when they say that they are happy for their contributions, private and public respectively, to fund our National Open.
