The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Justin Welby, and his Holiness Pope Francis, have both made token gestures to the migrant crisis by offering accommodation in church properties at Lambeth Palace and The Vatican to a handful of people.

I would never criticise any charitable act, but I must ask why these properties have not previously been offered to some of the thousands of homeless people living in abject poverty on the streets of London and Rome respectively, or don’t they count?
