I WAS very saddened to read that a number of ministers, elders and members are leaving the Church of Scotland (your report, 13 June).
Like George Wishart and John Knox before them, they have decided to put their faith and love for God first. Their departure will be a great loss to the Church. But leaving the Church to which they were faithfully devoted for so many years will be fraught with deep suffering and distress.
It is very disconcerting to witness the inability of the Church of Scotland, as an institution, to predict or comprehend the incredible suffering it is able to inflict on some of its members.
