Impressive fail

Have your say

I read that Andy Hornby and Sir James Crosby now accept that they led HBOS to the verge of collapse through lending practices which were “not competent” (your
report, 4 December).

Just how did Mr Hornby manage to secure further highly paid executive roles (with Boots and Coral) after being such an abject failure in banking?

Presumably the job interview went something like: “I see from your application that you ran a major FTSE company. Was it successful?”. “No”. “Did you lead by good example?” “No”.

“Did you care about the future of the company and its staff?” “No”. “Can you give us some examples of your incompetence?”. “Yes…”

Mr Hornby, you’re just what we’re looking for. We’d like to offer you the post.”
