Giants’ game

Have your say

While I can sympathise with Tom Reilly (Letters, 10 May) over coverage of Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement, I am mindful that Jock Stein’s “wee boys’ game” has been taken over by the television giants which have created a monster – with all that this means to the millions across the world, especially those who have nothing.

Sir Alex Ferguson is a master of the game, with the ability to recognise and nurture talent. But he also was fortunate in having a first-class scouting team, and a chairman and board with
bottomless pockets and an indifference to debt.
