Faith under threat

Have your say

Having read many of the less official remarks and posts by the supporters of secularism over many months, I find it difficult to disassociate the adjectives “strident” and “militant” from the views of certain supporters. One looks forward to a day when the “anachronistic” beliefs of Christians will be exposed to the reality of a secular society. Another looks forward to a secular world where children are not “brainwashed, bullied into the parents’ ridiculous faiths”.

Some spokesmen have claimed the secular lobby wishes to liberate society from non-democratic religious privilege, but some observers may fear that if some secular supporters’ real views were put into practice, churches would require to be officially registered and their beliefs and doctrines approved by a future state office for religion and atheism. There have been historical precedents.
