English have the deciding vote

Have your say

IN HIS article in Scotland on Sunday (Insight, 12 January) Jim Murphy’s title starts “Change our government…” But that is just what we are unable to do.

Of all the UK elections since 1945, the Tories won only once, by one seat in 1955, yet formed eight governments. In 2010, Gordon Brown had support of all but one MP for a Scottish seat but it was not enough. There is no way Scots can give Labour better than all-but-one seats, so again English votes will decide.

Mr Murphy says Tory policies are poison, but chooses to forget the harm done by Labour. Labour needs to gain some insight into the interests of its people, and support independence. Then there would be social democratic governments for as far as we can see.
