An auld habit

Have your say

IT WAS with some disbelief that I read accounts in the press about the police involving themselves in an incident in Dunbar in which a publican was apparently taken to task for referring to England’s football team as “Them” – as in “That lot down there”.

I now see reference to that same team as “The Auld Enemy” (your report, 16 August).

Which is worse, I wonder – referring to our friends and neighbours in the south as “them”, or referring to them as the enemy?
