SCOTLAND’S oil and gas industry will “inevitably” be badly hit after energy giant Shell yesterday axed £10 billion of investment, union and political leaders have warned.
Many believe that had Scotland voted Yes in the independence referendum then iScotland would have sunk along with the oil industry during the current crisis, without the support of the rUK.
However, Salmond and Sturgeon et al have always claimed their economy would have only seen the oil industry as a bonus windfall and not the lynchpin of their economy. Whatever the truth of the matter it’s clear that the energy sector – be that oil, fracking or renewables – will be the focus of the headlines for years to come.
