Youth voting

I was disappointed by Rex Milton's comment (Letters, 14 April) that "I doubt whether many 16-year-olds would bother to turn up to vote" .

Recently, Fintry had issues with the introduction of a new transport system and its effect on the elderly. A group of village teenagers, all under 18, decided they wanted to know how the new bus service would affect them. They decided to attend the local MSP's surgery in Fintry. Bruce Crawford met with them as a group and, from all reports, they expressed their views in a clear and cogent manner.

I believe they were surprised they were listened to and their views taken on board, and they have established line of communication with the MSP – democracy in action. I have no doubt that when the opportunity arises, all of them will vote.

Perhaps politicians should engage more with teenagers and enact legislation to lower the voting age to 16.
