An art heist in a library, a ban for an offie that sold to underagers, a fat cat's tale and university cutbacks fired up onliners.

An ingenious art heist at, er, Blackhall Library has left police and artists baffled. Onliners knew exactly what to make of it though . .

The police have charged a guy but he says he was framed.

Maybe they thought that they were too poor to be displayed?

Surely not . . oh, there's a theme emerging, I see . . More from the jokers who sat at the back of the art class . .

No doubt the theft of those, and the other, paintings is in itself "performance art" being "performed" by some pretentious "artist".

If I had 40 I wouldn't spend it on a painting of a bird. Selling tat at this price . . . it's actually pretty funny that the daylight robbers were the ones who were stolen from.

40 sounds like a bargain to me . . sure the bloke from the offie in Easter Road would have settled for a fine like that, instead of having his licence suspended for serving underagers!

Only a fortnight, that is the sin. I wonder who the councillor is for that area. Police usually say they only do test purchases on information received, so how long has it been going on?

This is an excellent shop that just doesn't sell the sort of cider, vodka and other stuff neds usually buy. Suspect he's been targeted by plod just to demonstrate their "ethnic diversity" when going after other off-licence/general stores in the area. Much like BTP doing random "stop and searches" at Waverley to "balance" their figures. Sympathies, Mr Wrobel – I'll certainly be back after 9 Feb.

Only in Scotland would a political leader describe a booze shop as "an asset".

At least the owner is not moaning like so many others caught doing something wrong. Sorry is a good word and should be used more often.

As an off licence owner he should have known better, I would say he has got off lightly. The shop is an asset to Easter Road as it looks and feels like a quality store, not like the other establishments in the area.

A story about a fat cat who learned to open the fridge attracted one comment worth relaying . . but only one.

It opened the fridge cos it was feline hungry. I'll get me coat.

Edinburgh University's teaching school is slashing a quarter of its staff.

The loss of "up to" 40 research academics' posts can only reduce the volume of crackpot "educational theories" bombarding (and confusing) our idiot politicians.

The Scottish Government spokesman didn't do maths: "By reducing student numbers we can create more jobs for those teachers already qualified". No. By reducing student numbers you reduce the number of teachers. The number of jobs doesn't change!
