Did Clegg land the crucial blow viewers reckon he did? The wheels on the tram battle bus aren't going round and round

Did you watch the historic first leaders' debate? The Evening News readers who did declared Nick Clegg the winner. Online, it was more of a split decision.

The only thing worse than five more years of Gordon would be the Lib Dems in control or holding the balance of power. The Scottish Parliament taught us that!

I thought Clegg was very impressive.

It was Cameron's to lose, and he lost it. Brown was solid if unexciting. Clegg benefited hugely from the exposure and the freedom to promise radical change.

Brown was the poorest communicator and he and Cameron must now be regretting holding these TV debates as they arrogantly think it is a two-horse race. Clegg won but had an open goal. Alex Salmond – whatever you think of his politics – is a superb debater and would have skooshed last night's debate if Scotland had a voice.

Well done to Brown for agreeing to hold the debate. How people think Clegg won I don't know, but I suppose perception is reality. Salmond would definitely have nailed the lot of them: the odious Iain Gray must be soiling his pants for Tuesday.

I don't much care who won this TV talent show, but please, please, not another five years of Dear Leader Gordon Brown and the dead joyless hand of authoritarian New Labour!

Closer to home and there's more tram misery. This time, TIE has spent 90,000 on a PR battle bus that's only left the stop once in four years.

I travel extensively around Edinburgh but have never seen this bus – either I'm very unlucky or the bus has been well hidden.

Nitpicking, Edinburgh

". . . it has been used extensively as a mobile information and workshop area for on-site health and safety talks . . ." So now we know why the work has progressed so slowly. They've all been learning how to do the job safely. Who have TIE been giving these talks to, surely site-specific safety is the responsibility of the contractors.

"Battle-bus"? More like blunder-bus. It is quite bizarre how TIE gets away with frittering away substantial sums, whilst every other council department is having to rein in spending. No doubt, we shall soon be hearing of nice healthy bonuses for TIE employees.

"Not only has it been used extensively as a mobile information and workshop area for on-site health and safety talks, it has also facilitated disability consultation groups and school visits". Could they not just have bought a laptop and a projector and trawled round schools using public transport?

Bring Back Poll Tax

Considering the vast sums spent on PR, lawyers, junkets, laying track, digging holes, filling in holes, etc, etc, the cost of this bus seems inconsequential, although perhaps it is symbolic of the long-term mismanagement of this project. As public spending is cut back, this project just looks like more and more of a waste of money and resources
