On wrong road

I was interested to read that David Stewart, MSP for the Highlands and Islands, has suggested the introduction of measures to restrict young persons' driving (your report, 8 June). I have raised this issue with my MSP and MP and eventually received a reply from the under-secretary responsible advising that the government would not consider applying restrictions as it would apply to all and not just the irresponsible few.

As a consequence, the activities of the sensible majority would be curtailed.

I was perplexed by this, as that is exactly what happens to the sensible majority in relation to alcohol licensing laws.

I hope Mr Stewart is more successful in his attempt.
