Why the silence?

My FRUSTRATIONS in reading your paper – the only one the Scotsman I am married to will allow in the house – come to the surface when only Cardinal O’Brien comes out in favour of not redefining marriage and the Church of Scotland, of which I am a member, sits shtuum!

So while in Edinburgh recently, I popped into the Kirk’s main offices on George Street and, being only a humble member, there was no-one able to speak to me on this subject.

However, I was given a copy of what the Legal Questions Committee had put into the Scottish Government. What a powerful document it was and not at all in favour of redefining marriage. But can someone tell me why someone in the hierarchy of the Church does not come out and say so in your paper? What are they frightened of? Whom would they be offending?
