Semantics, dissembling, selective amnesia, passing the buck – we’ve had it all at the Levenson Inquiry and Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt must be in the running for top prize.

This inquiry is turning out to be less about press standards and more about an incompetent parliament where all that matters is keeping the media on side.

Blaming the media for this current debacle is like shooting the messenger.

Legislation is already in place to deal with phone and e-mail hacking and police corruption but for Mr Hunt, a government minister, to say to the world he was harassed by Fred Michel of News Corp to the extent that he felt he had to answer his every e-mail, text and phone call makes you really worried about these inexperienced boys who are running our country.
