Wealth creators

The real “wealth creators”
(Letters, 31 August) are entrepreneurs like Sir Richard Branson or Sir Tom Farmer who start and build up businesses that give employment and income to many other people.

By contrast, those who gamble with other people’s money on very short-term movements in share prices or currency create wealth only for themselves.

They do nothing whatsoever to create or help businesses, whether listed or not.

Following George Osborne’s trenchant defence of super-rich “wealth creators” (your report, 30 August) it seems to me that the Prime Minister now has the perfect solution to his quandary of what to do with the Chancellor in his upcoming ministerial reshuffle – put him in charge of a newly created Ministry of
Special Pleading.
