Vital fishing law

One of the most important items of news last week seems to have gone almost entirely unmentioned in most of the media, namely a vote in the European Parliament at long last to end the obligatory dumping of millions of tonnes of caught fish into the sea every year – the vast majority either dying (horrifically) or dead .

How on Earth was this allowed to happen for so long? Why must we wait another three years before all types of fish come into the new policy? And why did such a momentous event get so little coverage?

The utter wastage as well as callousness against the sanctity of life beggars belief and has for long been at the top of my list of reasons for holding the European Union in contempt.
