Trump that

I find it astounding that Willie Rennie, leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats, should praise those who have stood up to Donald Trump (your report, 27 March).

Has he forgotten the part the Lib Dem group on Aberdeenshire Council played in removing Councillor Martin Ford as chair of the planning committee, for standing up to Trump?

On 4 April 2008, The Scotsman reported that then Lib Dem Cllr Ford “accused his fellow Lib Dem councillors of mounting a witch hunt against him” and “claimed he was being treated like the victim of a political purge in a totalitarian regime”.

So who is it that Willie Rennie thinks deserve praise? Perhaps he means the Green Party, which has consistently “stood up to Trump” in Aberdeenshire, and which Cllr Ford subsequently joined, after leaving the Lib Dems.
