Trading places

Your correspondents’ views on the reputation of Scottish graduates (11 April) made for interesting reading.

With so many of them facing unemployment, it really is time that more schools persuaded pupils to train for a trade. We have all struggled to find good plumbers or electricians – and they aren’t cheap.

There shouldn’t be any shame in bright young people pursuing those trades, instead of nurturing deluded dreams of a career in the media.
