Tickling joke

Our First Minister is in danger of portraying Scotland as a joke. His journey to enlighten the English via the Hugo Young lecture (your report, 24 January) is an insult to his hosts and embarrassment for us.

There are at least two possible conclusions to be drawn. First, Alex Salmond is becoming (or is) delusional. Second, that he wants to annoy the English so much that they get rid of us.

It’s ironic, to say the least, that the party’s view (expressed by Joan McAlpine) is that real Scots like me, who don’t share their views, are denounced as anti-Scottish.

This is somewhat at odds with a beacon that is a “more socially just and tolerant society” [than England]. The First Minister’s “progressive opinion” is progressing towards insanity.

I suspect the English will have a good laugh at us, and nothing could be more annoying.
