IT IS A bit rich for HMRC to state, in its rejection of the proposed Rangers’ company voluntary arrangement (CVA): “A liquidation provides the best opportunity to protect taxpayers.”

Surely the taxman’s best opportunity to protect taxpayers arose when no Paye, NI or Vat had been remitted within three months of the Craig Whyte takeover in May 2011?
