Tax penalty

In response to the conclusion of the Harry Redknapp tax evasion trial, Chris Martin, assistant director of criminal investigations at HM Revenue and Customs, reminded the public that tax evasion was not a victimless crime (your report, 9 February).

He did not need to remind us since we, as taxpayers, will have to pay for HM Revenue and Customs’ unsuccessful prosecution of Mr Redknapp. How much has this trial cost? The taxpayers are still the victims in this case.
