Talking with God

Rev Dr John Cameron claims that it is impossible to have rational debate with people who claim to know what God thinks (Letters, 12 March).

Given his title, I assume that he has made his living from proclaiming what God thinks (God’s Word). Does this preclude rational debate? God describes himself as the Logos and our being made in the image of God means that, alone of all his creatures, we are capable of rational and logical thought. Belief in God does not preclude but rather mandates rationality.

Rev Cameron places a great deal of faith in government, natural institutions and opinion polls. Perhaps it might be better if he did actually take God into account.
