Talk of the Town: It's a rum do for Junior and Lois

JUNIOR the Yorkshire Terrier was the envy of most men after taking centre stage with former Miss Scotland Lois Weatherup in a new advertising campaign. The lucky pooch from Edinburgh's Citidogs crèche was selected to help launch a new marketing campaign by dark rum OVD.

Junior was chosen for his likeness to Greyfriars Bobby, who came out top in a survey to find Scotland's favourite famous pet.

Brand manager for OVD Paul Curry said: "Junior's likeness to Greyfriars Bobby made him the perfect dog to star in the photo shoot to launch our new marketing campaign that aims to tap into the Scots' sweet spot for pets."

SHE'S probably the last fairytale character that anyone would expect to find on trial in a court room. But primary four and five pupils from Meldrum Primary conducted the trial of Goldilocks not once but twice at Deans Community High School Gallery recently - with the help of a QC.

The children took part in acting out a trial of Goldilocks, questioning and cross-examining the witnesses, which of course included the three bears.

Goldilocks, in a long curly wig and pink dress, was found guilty by the jury and given a deferred sentence, promising not to get into any further trouble.

Don't forget your glasses

RETIRING Presiding Officer Alex Fergusson had only one piece of advice for his successor Tricia Marwick.

As he handed over the chair of the Scottish Parliament yesterday he suggested: "If, after a few months, you feel you're not as well known as you'd like to be, get involved in a live TV draw for a football cup semi-final and make a complete hash of it."

He was, of course, referring to his bungled handling of the 2007 CIS Cup draw when, with just four teams to pick from, he managed to announce the wrong set of ties.

Mr Fergusson said he had forgotten his reading glasses.

I'll have a pint..of milk

CHILDREN do grow up quickly these days, but there was still astonishment at the fact that Royal Mile Primary School's entry on online listings service Big Red Directory had it down as a pub.

The school is close to the Evening News offices, so we've all seen little people coming and going, and unless their business studies classes have got rather ahead of themselves, we assume it's a mistake. And the children might be slightly dismayed to see that its opening hours are apparently 11.30am until 11pm, seven days a week.
