Studs farmed

Observant Edinburgh readers will be aware of the brass brick-shaped studs inlaid along the Royal Mile which outline the area where old buildings once stood, such as the Luckenbooths and the Tolbooth.

Outside the World’s End public house these markers show the outline of Netherbow Port.

On Sunday I noticed that one of these brick-shaped studs was missing from the road. Unfortunately, on
Monday I noticed that two of these studs are now missing.

Is this loss owing to an over-enthusiastic tourist collecting souvenirs or is the cause more nefarious?

Citizens of Edinburgh: keep a good look-out, for someone is stealing our
heritage.
