Student ‘waste’

Once more we have the problem of a government making decrees that lack any reason. Despite being told that the majority of recent teaching graduates are unable to find work and most leave the profession before or at least at the end of their guaranteed probationary year, our Scottish Government has decided to increase the intake of students to teacher training (your report, 20 December).

What a waste of our money, and a shocking way to treat young people by leading them up the garden path. When will the SNP, and, to a degree, its fellow parliamentarians, realise that bums on university seats does not make a developed society.

People should not be tricked into developing aspirations that will never be fulfilled.
