Stop the clock

I HAVE been an ardent Scottish rugby supporter since 1956 and, following the timing issue which was highlighted at last weekend’s Scotland v Wales match, I believe there is a simple solution.

The clock should be stopped immediately when a side elects to kick at goal and when a try is awarded. The clock would simply start again when play is resumed either from the 22 or halfway line. Extra playing time would be gained instead of the current delay of watching a kicker lining up and taking his kick while the other players stand watching. A simple idea readily implemented.
