Spitting mad

Following the revelation that Scotland is facing a £55 million swine flu bill (your report, 22 April), I'd like to suggest a stronger message to the public health campaigns.

I'm absolutely sick of seeing – and hearing – people spitting on the street and pavement, and having to walk around their disgusting deposits. I glare at them when they do it, but they never seem to be embarrassed about this revolting habit. They should be fined.

No wonder there are so many germs around the place.
