Sir Sean in exile

It is rather sad that an apparently frail and ageing Sir Sean Connery chose again to comment in New York on the future of Scotland, a country in which he has not lived for many decades (your report, 16 September).

He will not have to suffer any consequences resulting from the destruction of the UK for which he longs. Freedom of speech and thought is precious indeed but a dignified silence from the long-exiled Sir Sean would have been much better appreciated.

Those of us who have admired the actor’s work over the years can only feel sadness and disappointment.
