Sharing the road

I totally agree with David Roche’s comments on the visibility of cyclists (Letters, 21 May). He leaves out the fact that they need to be heard as well.

I walk my dogs on a very minor back road, and I have lost count of the number of times that I or the dogs have been nearly hit by speeding cyclists who give you no warning of their impending arrival. What has happened to the good, old-fashioned bell? On the same country roads, I come across cyclists who think they have priority and ride three abreast. We all have to share the road.
