Selfish breeders

Letters (22 November) from Messrs Black and Hinnrichs on greenhouse gases make relevant points but miss the elephant in the room.

Indeed Scotland, on its own, cannot make a difference, but is that an excuse for not trying? If every country takes that attitude then, truly, we are doomed.

Mr Black may have reason to be cynical about wind farms, and he is certainly right about fracking, but neither correspondent mentions the fact that this planet cannot sustain seven billion people aspiring to our standard of living.

Until a serious effort is made to discourage people from breeding like rabbits, all efforts at mitigating greenhouse gases are ultimately futile. It is time that having more than two children per couple is seen as the selfish and irresponsible act it is.
