Scottish identity is under threat

JOHN Reid (News, 27 April) says that “when Alex Ferguson led an English team to victory in the European Cup did anyone doubt that he was Scottish?”

Some years ago, when the Winter Olympics were held in the United States, a Scottish curling team surprisingly defeated the favourites, Canada. This was internationally reported as “England stuns Canada”.

I doubt that many in the international football scene (outside of Scotland) imagine that Ferguson is not English. Our identity is under threat; ask any Scot on holiday abroad.
