NEW VICTIMS OF SMALLPOX, 9 April, 1950

The death toll at Glasgow's smallpox isolation hospital at Robroyston rose during the week-end to five. The latest victim, who died last night, was a 19-year-old nurse, admitted from Knightswood, where the outbreak was discovered a fortnight ago. She had been ill since only a day or two after the first cases. She was Margaret Davidson, whose home is in the north of Scotland. Another nurse is still very ill, but all the male cases and the children were reported last night to be doing well. This was the third death among members of the Knightswood Fever Hospital staff. The other death from the disease at the week-end occurred on Saturday. The victim was a laundrymaid, Isabel Lloyd, of Broomhill Terrace, Glasgow. She was one of the first confirmed cases. There were no further admissions to the hospital yesterday, and Glasgow's Medical Officer of Health, Dr Stuart Laidlaw, said last night that if there were no further cases admitted up to April 16, Glasgow would be regarded as clear.
