BRITISH FESTIVAL BROCHURE, 15 June, 1950

Lord Provost Sir Andrew Murray, chairman of the Edinburgh Festival Society, intimated at a Press conference in the City Chambers, Edinburgh, last night, that he intended to send an official protest to the 1951 Festival of Britain Committee because Edinburgh in particular, and Scotland in general, were accorded such inadequate recognition in the preliminary brochure being circulated throughout the world.

The Lord Provost described the brochure as "a most shocking document... a poor imitation in size of our brochure" and "of bilious appearance". Unfolding it, the Lord Provost commented to the conference: "The first thing I read is that the whole of Britain will be on show; that London will be the main centre, and cities, towns, and villages will all play their part. There is no mention of Edinburgh, only a statement about special activities in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland."
