On road to UN

Emma Cowing (Perspective, 2 October) is right to criticise Saudi Arabia’s misogynistic rules that “drive women crazy”. Realistically, however, what can be done to support the “true bravery” of those women opposing them?

No single country could apply the necessary leverage on one of the world’s largest oil producers.

Most importantly, because of oil, Saudi Arabia can spend huge sums of petro-dollars to purchase high-tech weapons.

Arguably for these reasons, securing rights for women in all countries is an issue for the United Nations.
