Retail madness

For me the very worst thing about Christmas is having to brave the shops for presents. If I’ve left it a bit late, as I did this year, and have to rely on the mainstream stores for gifts, I leave them feeling depressed and harassed.

I cannot fathom why, first thing on Boxing Day, shoppers will flock, nay stampede, to all those shops to fight for bargains in the sales.

I have to admit I feel rather disgusted at what a materialistic society we are. Wouldn’t it be nice if everyone could give the rampant consumerism a bit of a rest and do something a bit more imaginative instead?
